Best Beaches in Costa Brava

The Costa Brava - "the wild coast "is where the "Barcelonins" themselves go for a weekend (or more) to get a break from the city. It is easy to understand why when taking the car (or the train or bus) north along this charming coast. The name is more for its rugged appearance than weather conditions or descriptive of the "natives" here! Following are some of the beaches that are worth visiting:

1.Palamós, Platja de Castell Distance: 12 km

Untouched by development: a small beach that can be a very nice hideaway from the more crowded a bit farther south.

2.Llafranc Distance: 12.6 km

Crescent shaped beach by a small, charming port. A nice place to take the kids! There is also a promenade with restaurants when time comes to enjoy the Catalan cuisine! A "Blue Flag" beach.

3. Cala Llevadň Distance: 10.5 km

Just south of the charming village Tossa de Mar (also worth a visit) this beach is characterized by pine wood surroundings and majestic limestone cliffs. And, naturally, crystal clear water!

4.Tamariu Distance: 12.5 km

To really experience this rugged coast a "picture perfect" hike to Tamariu is something to consider! Blue water and white sand await those who do! A "Blue Flag" beach.

Best Beaches Southern Catalonia

1.Castelldefels Distance: 20 km This small town has miles and miles of beaches making it a good weekend choice when the Barcelona beaches can be….just a little bit overcrowded!

2.Sitges Distance: 42 km

Sitges is a city with a few of the same qualities as Barcelona especially in the sense of combining sunbathing and nightlife. Famous for the film festival and annual carnival and a nighlife popular especially among the gay community.

3.Altafulla Distance: 100 km

A visit to this attractive beach could be combined with a visit to the Roman ruins in nearby Tarragona. Located on the Costa Dorada ("the golden coast") this old fisherman's town has one of the nicest beaches in the area.
